Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is getting a free update, Sandfall Interactive has announced. Introducing everything from a new location to bosses, the upcoming content drop is meant to commemorate Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s latest sales milestone.

With a 92 average score and 97% reviewer recommendation rate on OpenCritic, Sandfall’s turn-based RPG has emerged as one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2025. The developer previously confirmed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sold 2 million copies within 12 days of its late April release, having now revealed that the title maintained admirable momentum in the months that followed.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Celebrates 5 Million Sales With Free Content Update Announcement

As of early October 2025, the RPG’s lifetime sales tally sits at 5 million, Sandfall has confirmed. To commemorate the occasion, the developer announced a new Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update, which will add a variety of content to the game for free. Headlining the upcoming release is a new playable environment, featuring previously-unseen enemies and some additional “surprises.” Sandfall also confirmed that new boss battles will be part of the package, though it did not clarify whether they will be exclusive to the new area or also distributed across existing in-game locations.

The upcoming update will expand the already vast selection of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 costumes, promising new outfits for each member of the Expedition. Sandfall has yet to clarify how many costumes it plans to add and what their unlock requirements will be. What the developer did say is that the patch will also introduce more localizations, adding support for Latin American Spanish, Czech, Ukrainian, Turkish, Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese. The move will raise the game’s total number of supported languages to 19.

The content drop will also incorporate “more surprises,” Sandfall said, albeit without providing any details. The French developer hasn’t yet committed to a firm release date or even window for this addition, merely promising that more information will be shared in due time. “We hope the update we’re working on will act as a ‘thank you’ to [Clair Obscur] fans for their support,” Sandfal Interactive Creative Director Guillaume Broche said in a prepared statement.

The announcement of these free additions to the hit RPG did not come completely out of the blue, as Sandfall has been teasing more Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 improvements for a while now. Though the studio has already released some updates in recent months, it has been transparent about still working on the game as of late summer 2025. Whenever it materializes, the next free update for the company’s debut game will have a same-day release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
