Stellar Blade‘s latest patch, revealed on September 29, adds one new epilogue to each of the game’s endings. As most fans know, Stellar Blade‘s campaign features three different endings whichb are unlocked by certain actions and decisions made by the player.
Each of Stellar Blade‘s endings has its own title: Cost of Lost Memories, Making New Memories, and Return to the Colony. Fans often label them as the good, bad, and secret endings, since each depicts a different future, some darker than others. But with the new update, these concluding cutscenes appear to have been expanded.
Added in a surprise patch for both PC and PS5 on September 29, Stellar Blade now features three new animated cutscenes that give a glimpse of EVE and her friends’ everyday life after the campaign. Each of the new epilogues runs about 30 seconds and shows never-before-seen interactions between familiar Stellar Blade characters. All added cutscenes have a comical tone and, despite being called “epilogues,” they don’t seem to add much to the overall lore.
Fans have shown mixed reactions to the update. Commenting on a YouTube video about the added content, one fan wrote, “Well, I’m glad I did not replay just for this.” Another added, “I hoped there’d be some new dialogue,” since none of the three new animations include voice lines. Some have also called the added content a missed opportunity, saying the developer could have used it to set the tone for the anticipated sequel. Still, many fans have appreciated the free content, with some even jokingly calling it an early Christmas gift to keep them occupied while waiting for Stellar Blade‘s possible DLCs.
Stellar Blade‘s September update on the PlayStation 5 appears to only add the new epilogues without other noticeable changes. The PC patch, however, includes additional fixes. Similar to Stellar Blade‘s surprise update in August, this patch addresses several bugs and adds minor QoL features. For example, when players use Photo Mode through the Odyssey 3D Hub, their screenshots are now saved in a dedicated folder. It also introduces a secret new request to the game’s Request Board that players may want to uncover.
Developer Shift Up seems focused on Stellar Blade‘s sequel, expected to be released next year. However, it hasn’t abandoned its 2024 action-adventure game, continuing to release updates that improve the gameplay experience and add new features. It remains to be seen whether Stellar Blade will receive more updates like the 1.4.1 patch, or if the epilogue marks a virtual conclusion to the first game’s campaign ahead of the second installment.
